Neil B. Mooney works primarily in the area of Customs, international trade, transportation and admiralty matters. While exclusively practicing law today, he has been a licensed Customs broker for thirty-seven years. He is one of an uninterrupted line of customs brokers, Customs attorneys or Customs officials in his family since the 1840's. In 1984, Mr. Mooney founded a family of Customs brokerage, air cargo, international ocean freight forwarding, non-vessel operating common carrier, and bonded warehousing companies which he sold to a publicly-traded entity ten years later. Today he practices law with knowledge of Customs, transport and international trade matters obtained from over three decades of first-hand experience.

Mr. Mooney received his J.D. cum laude from the Florida State University College of Law. He also studied civil law, European Union law, and public international law at the Universidad San Pablo in Madrid, Spain. Neil is proficient in Spanish.

Mr. Mooney’s diverse practice has included representing clients on such Customs matters as seizures, drawback and classification questions, and administrative proceedings before the Federal Maritime Commission. He has litigated numerous trade-related cases in both state and federal court, including the Court of International Trade, and advises on matters of international trademark and copyright. He handles corporate bankruptcy matters, mergers and acquisitions in the logistics industry, and has represented numerous foreign entities and agencies in their U.S. dealings. He also counsels customs brokers, freight forwarders and NVOCCs on compliance matters.

Neil is a member of the Florida Bar and the American Inns of Court, an invitation-only organization that encourages bench and bar social interaction between judges and attorneys that are recognized for their professionalism and high ethical standards. He is also a member of the Customs and International Trade Bar Association and the Customs Lawyers Association and the Florida Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association, of where he served as President. He was the founding President of Global Logistics Associates, an international trade association.
